On Saturday May 12, Asif Mehdi and his two brothers flew in from Los Angeles, CA to perform at the Roger Herr Middle School in Durham, NC. They are the sons of famous ghazal singer Mehdi Hasan. Afroz Taj, Urdu professor at The North Carolina State University, began the evening with an eloquent introduction to the audience. Despite the unexpected diminutive crowd, it turned out to be one of the best ghazal concerts that have ever been performed in the triangle area. Asif Mehdi was simply superb as his voice and rendition of ghazals held a strong resemblance to his father's. Credit should be given to Mohammad Pervaiz, Ifzal Hussain and Khalil Ansari for introducing Asif Mehdi and his brothers to the area.
